Gooders
Courtney and I had a brilliant birthday present idea for mom and I left her some money to get it done. That was back in december, and we finally got it today.
While we were looking for part of the present, we came across some AWESOME pictures from way back when. They’re all pretty much photos of my younger siblings and I when we were young. If you scroll over each picture, you’ll see a caption. Have Fuuuunnnn!
You Know You’re Canadian When…
“This place is so sexy” is the sentence you use to describe the new hockey arena.
The arena doesn’t officially open until Saturday, but the boys got to have a quick practice the other night.
They didn’t stop talking about it all. weekend. long.
The reason for the excitement?
Well ever since my brothers started playing hockey (about 10 years ago) the only arena on the coast was in Sechelt, about a 30 min drive away. This meant that my dad, my mom, and even I had to take them up there for every game and practice, including the one’s at 4am. I know.
THIS arena is in Gibsons(!), on our street(!!), and directly across from our house!!!!!!!!! They can now WALK to hockey, plus there’s a sweet gym in there too. We’ve already dibs a family pass and Courtney and I plan on working out there lots (who doesn’t want use a stationary bike with it’s own TV screen?)
Mmmm cream eggs…I mean, Happy Easter!
I’ve had a pretty wicked weekend, four days off and hanging out with friends and family. Saturday, we went into the city for easter dinner. Then today was church, football and dinner with mom. I got to see quite a few of my friends that I’ve kinda lost touch with just from our lives going in different directions so that was awesome!
My niece, Justine, and I
Coke and hockey…doesn’t get much better
Stop taking pictures! Seriously…I took over 200
I swear it’s you
My mommy loves me…and she has an odd way of showing it. The minute I got home she had lined up dentist, eye doctor, chiropractor, and every sort of appointment you can think of. My weeks have been filled with working in an office and sitting in waiting rooms, waiting.
Good news, I’m getting some sexy new glasses and my neck doesn’t hurt as much. Plus, since my hippie chiropractor says that everything is connected, I had tension in the middle of my back causing me to crave sugar, with that gone…so is 5lbs. ![]()
Lack of sugar will probably help me in the chair-o-doom (aka the dentist). *shivers*
Moving on…
My mother is a machine. Our van has been dying a slow and painful death for about a year now, and mom has spent every day on the computer looking for a new one.
Now, my mom and I have this trait in common, when we get it in our heads that we want a certain thing…we work until we get it. And depending on what it is, we don’t compromise and usually get what we want.
Finally, mom found a car yesterday from this guy in town. It’s a 2006 dodge van, low mileage, dvd player, stow and go seating….basically the works. The final price, including taxes and everything was $7000 off the retail price.
That poor sucker guy got worked over! I was so proud of my momma.
I’ve changed my hours at work, so now I get off at 4 instead of 5. I’m really not a morning person, so the 7am wake up call has the tendency of being a little violent…but nothing a little chai tea latte can’t fix. But it lets me get to all the appointments without missing work and go on massive walks with my little sister. Today’s walk voided the Wendy’s burger I had afterwards.
I had an awesome phone call with my grandma, that basically topped off today. She repeatedly told me to “go with the flow” and “you GO girl” with the odd “America can shove it up their ass” thrown in. She recently went to Vegas and had a pretty traumatizing experience…she’s so awesome though.
Music Monday
I’ve heard a couple songs from One Republic, basically just the ones they release as singles – Apologize and Stop & Stare. I’m sure most of you have heard them, if not, it’s ok to turn on the radio from time to time :)
But today my little bro, Chad, introduced me to some other songs on their newest album, Dreaming Out Loud.
These guys are awesome! It’s not too often that you find a CD and fall in love with every single song. The last time it happened to me was when Snow Patrol released Eyes Open. Which, by the way…is also worth every cent.
Getting back…the lead singer, Ryan Tedder, has a flawless voice and is even more impressive live.
I’ve picked 3 songs (besides the above two) that I think are the best on the album, and here they are:
Won’t Stop*
This song is basically my current situation in musical form, look up the lyrics for this one…I’m sure you’ll have someone who you can sing it to.
Say (All I need)*
I’m positive this will be the next single to be released…in fact, I have no idea why they didn’t release it first. Did I mention his voice? Amazing.
Mercy*
This one has more of a rock feel to it, and I that’s probably why I liked it. It has a lot of similarities to Switchfoot too, really sweet lyrics, and again with the voice.
*I’m still working on the player, so right now I don’t have one. I’ve linked to videos on youtube for the time being.
Chillin’ Out
I’m over the initial shock of my hair cut…10 inches is a lot! I actually really do love it, it cuts washing/straightening time in half, which is always nice. I do miss my curls, although I’m sure they’ll be back in a few inches
I stayed on the coast last weekend, it was nice to chill out with the family and spend relatively little money.
I went to church for the first time in like a year! It wasn’t bad, the only people I would’ve known there, were away for the weekend…go figure! So I spent most of the service hanging out with mom and getting many, “Oh you look just like your mother” comments. I usually scrunch up my face and say “Really?” But this time it was my mom who made a face because I responded with, “That’s ok! My mom’s hot!”
I got to see my old principal and his wife there too. The whole time we were talking, all I could think about was how much I made his life hell.
It was back in the Christian school where there were all of 52 students from K-9. I was part of the “Cool Group” that included myself, Danielle, Jenah and Emily. I won’t go into everything we did, cause my mom reads this, but I think every rule in the very strict guide book was broken by the 4 of us.
Highlights would be, putting something new in his drink every day, and “tuning” his guitar before school meetings.
I got a huge surprise yesterday night. My dad’s wife, Gail, did my taxes for me…and I had to call back this morning to make sure I had heard her right. Let’s just say that a huge chunk of my debt has now disappeared. One less stress I have to worry about.
Hair Did.
Lovely hairdresser (Karen): “So what are we doing with your hair today?”
“Cutting it all off..”
“You say that everytime and then we only take off a couple inches…show me how much”
I grab about 4 inches…
“How about we cut off enough to donate to cancer!”
Obviously I said ok…dear God what did I do?
I don’t mind it…it’s taking a long time to get used to, but at least it went to a good cause. I also don’t have to feel guilty about the hundreds of people that had to go bald, since God ran out of hair after he made me.
Maybe I’m crazy
I feel like a horrible person…I was shown a few songs from Britney Spears’ new CD, and I like them. What is wrong with my world?
I’ve been in pain for the last month, possibly due to the addition of new activities (like MOVING) or the absence of others.
Lucky for me, I’m in Gtown, the land where everything is natural…so I got to see this hippie chiropractor. I’m all for doing things as natural as possible, but herbal remedies made from dirt and blessed by mother earth? Umm, no thanks.
I also believe that I am in a lot of pain, and it was my first time at a chiropractors so I didn’t have much to lose. Hippie Dr did a bunch of tests, and adjusted me….mmmm adjusting…
Hippie Dr? not so crazy after all!
Everyone here looks at me like I’m crazy when I go on and on about how he just turned me a certain way and now…no pain! Even my little sister, in her 14-year-old eye-rolling, attitude soaked voice, said “Umm ya…that’s what they DO…”
Whoa, sorry for never experiencing life…did I tell you about a time when I held a tiger and rode an elephant in Indonesia?
So anyway, I’m going there for another adjustment on Friday and then again on Monday for the results/plan on how he’s going to fix me!
I wrote before about how I’m sharing a room with my over-flatulent little brother. Last night, I had reached new levels of over tiredness. I was spewing these random thoughts that you only think of in that state and we were both in stitches! I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time. I love those moments with my little siblings, even if you’ve had a fight earlier but you can still laugh at the end of the day, you know it’ll all be good.
Last night, she said
What a gong show last night was. Baby Ben, take notes cause this is how it’s done.
After catching the ferry and taking the bus into the city, we still had about an hour to kill before the club opened. Since we hadn’t had dinner, we hit up the sketchiest Burger King ever. As we were finishing up our meal, this homeless guy came and asked for the rest of our food. Poor Marissa was scared to death, she’s such a small town girl.
To help Marissa feel a bit more comfortable, I gave my friend Ryan a call to be her protector. Once we got inside, we set ourselves up in the private lounge beside the bar and met Anthony and Micheal, our bartenders for the night. After a couple drinks we got ourselves onto the dance floor and danced to the always amazing DJ Josh. When I went to get more money from my bag I ran into a couple guys I hadn’t seen in a long time, so they joined us in our little corner. Then I ran into David, who I hadn’t seen since we went to Mexico on a missions trip together 4 years ago. I didn’t think he would remember me, but thanks to a little liquid confidence, I approached him with a “David…right?” to which he responded with
“You look SO familiar, I just have no idea where I know you from!”
When I got back to Marissa, she had met our new found GIRL friends, Nina and Nikki. So what started with a girls night out, ended with our own roped off party next to the bar. It was so much fun! I forgot my camera, so this was taken on my phone…sorry for the poor quality.
Today I got back to Gibsons early afternoon, and have done next to nothing. My back has been really messed up lately and dancing last night and wearing heels didn’t help. It was probably a good thing that I took today to chill out and hopefully my chiropractic appointment on tuesday fixes everything.
