Full Circle Part 1

June 3, 2008 at 10:53 am (Matt, friends, humour, life)

I have been trying to write a post for the last week now. Every time I sit down at my computer and try to explain my current situation, I’m at a loss for words. How do you put something that you’ve thought about every single second, for the last year, into a few coherent sentences?

Last night, I learned.  So, what was going to be one of the most important posts of my life, is now in two (maybe even 3?) parts.  Don’t hold out until the end to comment thought ;)

There are a number of reasons I haven’t mentioned this stuff much on my blog. The main one being, I didn’t want anything to come back and bite me in the ass. But I’ve spent the last week putting some padding back there, so I should be fine now.

Everyone knows I was in New Zealand for 2 months with my best friend, Danielle, in 2006. Earlier that year, we both came out of serious relationships and were left trying to figure out what to do next.  We didn’t want to get stuck in our small town and let life just pass by, so we got on a plane, October 22, and headed to NZ.

As soon as we got there, we fell in love. We did everything from Zorbing, Black Water Rafting, and Parasailing, to shopping, lying on the beach, and clubbing. You can read about all our crazy adventures on my old blog.

It. Was. Awesome.

It also helped that I met a boy while I was down there. He reads this blog, and knows my inner loser more than anyone, but I’m still hoping that he doesn’t leave me after he reads the following. I kid, of course.

Ours is an interesting story.
I wasn’t sure where to start while I was thinking about this post, but then I found an email I had drafted up for a friend of mine a couple days after I met Matt. I never did send it, because I only finished writing about the first day we met.  There are a few details from that first night that are missing (like him making me a really yummy drink and walking me home) but it’s a good summary.

So Danielle and I were in Wellington at a backpackers bar. The night was going pretty well…we silly danced with a couple of guys (ex. the sprinkler, sarah’s kitchen appliance moves, etc.), good times.
I got to talking with this tall blonde dutch guy, and danielle wasn’t into his friend at all so she got to talking with these other guys at the bar. Those guys ended up being Zach and JP, and they invited us to go have a couple drinks with them in a different bar.
So we did.
At this point, it was 12:30am…danielle was into JP(aka Mr.Hot) but was having fun hanging out with Zach too. I wasn’t really liking either of them…so I was kinda a loner…poor me.
Ok, so the first bar we went to….sucked. They were all talking and laughing, and I was, well I was kinda, ok let’s face it…I was a little tipsy. I found out that I don’t act how you would expect someone to act when they have alcohol in their system. I do this thing where all I’m concentrating on is trying to appear as sober as I possibly can because “I’m the responsible one.” So I was kinda minding my own business…when they decided they wanted to go to a different bar called, Jet.

1am
This part is really funny…as soon as I walked into the bar, danielle and I turned to each other and I said “wow…hot bartender!” She was happy because I had now had something to keep me preoccupied and not grumpy that danielle was having all the fun.
So I sat down at the bar, when I noticed JP talking to said hot bartender. I, of course, listen in…and find out he’s off work in 15 minutes and that JP has invited him for a drink.
During those 15 minutes…I was sitting at the bar watching danielle dancing away with JP and Zach, getting more and more sober because I wasn’t having too much fun….which ultimatly proved to be a very good thing.

So Hot bartender gets off work, sits down next to me :) , and talks to JP until JP decides he wants to start dancing again. Well….knowing me, I’m not just going to sit here awkwardly while danielle has all the fun, so I introduce myself to *cue angelic chorus*
Matt.

And we talk.move to a booth.talk.eat candy.more talking. Not just the casual conversation talking either. It was what I swear I’ve only seen in the the movies. You know the talking where you stay up all night getting to know every detail about the other persons life, not because you have nothing else to do, but because you want to know everything about this person.
We were up until 5am. There was not one awkward silence, there was so much laughing, there was some serious moments…and there was the strongest connection I have ever felt, ever.

It doesn’t stop there!  To be continued…
