My brain feels like it’s going to explode

July 13, 2008 at 10:14 pm (Uncategorized)

I spent a little too much time out in the sun yesterday and am now a florescent shade of red.  Not to mention, sore, overheating and dehydrated, with tan lines.  Hawt.

The sun and I are no longer on speaking terms…at least until this burn goes away.  So I spent today inside working on my never-ending list… and my new site specifically.

Excuse me, as I SMASH MY LAPTOP AGAINST THE WALL!  *ahem*

I would never actually do that, but I did feel pretty close to it a few times today.  I’ve put my new site on hold for at least a few days…

And now I’m off to bed since I can no longer keep my eyes open and mah burn is aching!

The FUN Side of Leaving the Country!

July 11, 2008 at 6:57 pm (Uncategorized)

PROJECTS! LIST! and ORGANIZING!
My week has been filled with it ALL!  Needless to say, I’m beside myself with excitement.

With only 7 weeks until I leave for a country millions of kilometres away, my list of things I need to get done is getting loooong .  Luckily, I get just as much joy adding to my list as I do crossing items off.

This was every single article of clothing I had:

Now?  It looks like this:

A shopping trip is desperately needed as that is actually all I have to wear.  My old clothes were put in a garbage bag and left for the vulture Courtney to get her claws hands on.  Those clothes didn’t even know what hit them….I’ve taught her well.

Organizing all my important papers is the next thing on my list.  My shredder and I will have hours of uninterrupted good times.  Can’t.Wait.

I cross-stitch.  Yeah, I know I’m pretty much the only person under 50 who does, but I like it!  It brings back good memories of living at the airport and Math class with Marissa (we still got decent marks even though we never paid attention…we’re smart like that).  I’m doing this one for Gail, who has a few that she wants to get done before Christmas.  Good luck!

Finally, I’m going self-hosted!!!  I’ll be switching to my new! very! own! domain! in a few days once I figure out how to work the damn thing.  If you guys didn’t think I was cool nerdy enough already, I’ve asked Marissa to guest post on my new site.  By asked, I mean Marissa forced herself on me and has even threatened me if I read the post before I put it up.  Hopefully, the guidelines I gave her were abided by…

I doubt it though.

You Know You’re Canadian When…

March 25, 2008 at 7:33 pm (Uncategorized)

“This place is so sexy” is the sentence you use to describe the new hockey arena.

img_1613s.jpg

The arena doesn’t officially open until Saturday, but the boys got to have a quick practice the other night.
They didn’t stop talking about it all. weekend. long.
The reason for the excitement?
Well ever since my brothers started playing hockey (about 10 years ago) the only arena on the coast was in Sechelt, about a 30 min drive away. This meant that my dad, my mom, and even I had to take them up there for every game and practice, including the one’s at 4am. I know.
THIS arena is in Gibsons(!), on our street(!!), and directly across from our house!!!!!!!!! They can now WALK to hockey, plus there’s a sweet gym in there too. We’ve already dibs a family pass and Courtney and I plan on working out there lots (who doesn’t want use a stationary bike with it’s own TV screen?)

Music Monday

March 17, 2008 at 12:07 pm (Uncategorized)

I’ve heard a couple songs from One Republic, basically just the ones they release as singles – Apologize and Stop & Stare. I’m sure most of you have heard them, if not, it’s ok to turn on the radio from time to time :)

But today my little bro, Chad, introduced me to some other songs on their newest album, Dreaming Out Loud.
These guys are awesome! It’s not too often that you find a CD and fall in love with every single song. The last time it happened to me was when Snow Patrol released Eyes Open. Which, by the way…is also worth every cent.
Getting back…the lead singer, Ryan Tedder, has a flawless voice and is even more impressive live.

I’ve picked 3 songs (besides the above two) that I think are the best on the album, and here they are:

Won’t Stop*
This song is basically my current situation in musical form, look up the lyrics for this one…I’m sure you’ll have someone who you can sing it to.

Say (All I need)*
I’m positive this will be the next single to be released…in fact, I have no idea why they didn’t release it first. Did I mention his voice? Amazing.

Mercy*
This one has more of a rock feel to it, and I that’s probably why I liked it. It has a lot of similarities to Switchfoot too, really sweet lyrics, and again with the voice.

*I’m still working on the player, so right now I don’t have one.  I’ve linked to videos on youtube for the time being.

Hair Did.

March 8, 2008 at 1:57 pm (Uncategorized)

Lovely hairdresser (Karen): “So what are we doing with your hair today?”
“Cutting it all off..”
“You say that everytime and then we only take off a couple inches…show me how much”

I grab about 4 inches…

“How about we cut off enough to donate to cancer!”

Obviously I said ok…dear God what did I do?
I don’t mind it…it’s taking a long time to get used to, but at least it went to a good cause. I also don’t have to feel guilty about the hundreds of people that had to go bald, since God ran out of hair after he made me.

Early Mother’s Day

February 28, 2008 at 4:06 pm (Uncategorized)

I was going to wait a couple months and post this for mother’s day which I’ll probably still do. But I’ve spent the last couple of days watching videos by these two guys and can’t keep them to myself any longer.
Introducing BaratsandBereta…

I can see Lance and Chad in that one for sure.

They’re no Flight of the Conchords (who I’m going to see in seattle in May if anyone wants to join the mini road trip, YAY!) but they are quite funny.

Here are my other favs:
Auto Insurance

Time for a little detail.

February 1, 2008 at 11:48 am (Uncategorized)

As I said before, I’m undergoing some major change at the moment.

Beginning of January, I quit the job that sucked life out of every aspect of my being was just meant to be temporary anyway.  I did not want to be in retail for the rest of my life.
No, way.

Of course, being the planner I am, I had a job to go to so I wasn’t left in the cold.  I rejoined the firm I worked at before my trip, even though it meant moving back to the coast.

I was given the option of working out of Vancouver, but because the business will be relocating to the Okanagan in June, I figured it would be easier to be in Gibsons during the week.  Plus, it would save me a lot of money rent and transportation-wise.  I still have my place in the city for the next month, so I’ll be there on weekends to party pack.

If you know me, you know that I was hell-bent on not moving back to Gibsons any time soon, if not ever.  Gibsons isn’t that bad if you’re 0-17, or 65-90…and I, currently, am not.
Even more than that, given my past relationship with certain people in my family, I was very timid about moving back in with them.

Last time I lived there,  I shared a room with my little sister.  When I left, she was so excited, she got rid of my bed and painted the room a bright blue.  We both knew right away that if I was going to be coming back for a few months, there was no way we could share a bed for that long.

Since my brother, Lance, moved in with my older sister, Angella, his bed was up for grabs…it just meant sharing a room with my other brother, Chad.

(it’s time for another blog post on how my family works, since I deleted the last one.)

Poor Chaddy.  He’s the only testosterone floating in the house, and I’ve invaded his space (literally, my crap is everywhere).  Last night he had all of us on his case, giving him advice on his current relationship.
He just stood there, wide eyed, at the 3 women who just wouldn’t.shut.up.
In true man fashion, I doubt he caught anything we said.

Staying at home has been, dare I say it, fun.
I get to be the fun older sister who dares her 16 yr old bro to grow out his facial hair, flaunts the sports illistration swim suit addition she found while snooping under the bed, and is her little sister’s new closet.
I get to make my mom look like Tina Turner(one of the beatles, or a muppet) by straightening her hair, point out that single and granny panties do not go in the same sentence

I’m a student

January 23, 2008 at 1:17 am (Uncategorized)

My boss enrolled me in the Canadian Investment Funds Course to get my license to sell mutual funds…and my course book came in today!
I was going to take a cute picture with my book while ironically wearing my “I ♥ Nerds” T-shirt, but my battery died and I was too lazy to get up.

Anyway, I’m a little worried about how it’s going to go. I haven’t been to school in like 3 years and I was never good at the whole ‘homeschool’ thing.
First, there was homeschool until grade 4…which was basically mom sticking me in a room with my book and telling me to have 5 exercises done by the end of the day. I would work on it for about 5 minutes, get bored, and start playing ‘office’ with my fake phone and notebook. I only made it through half of grade 4 before mom sent me to public school.

Then there was the German fiasco of 2003. I was so hell-bent on not taking french and hating every.other.course offered, that I thought it wise to shell out $200 to take up german…the self taught version. I don’t think I finished the first lesson.

So who knows how this one will turn out…there is the little incentive of getting a raise when I finish to look forward to. Maybe now, all my sleepless nights will pay off.
